Card-Based Strategy Game to Feature Cross-Platform Online Play and Hundreds of Cards Based on Marvel’s Most Famous Characters
LOS ANGELES - Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) Booth #800 - May 9, 2006 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced Marvel Trading Card Game, a card based-strategy video game featuring the Marvel Universe for the Nintendo DS™, PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system and PC. Based on the best selling trading card game from Upper Deck, Marvel Trading Card Game allows players to collect hundreds of cards based on their favorite Marvel characters and compete in cross-platform online play in a variety of different modes.

Marvel Trading Card Game lets players assemble their own deck and take on different challenges to gain more cards based on legendary Marvel characters such as Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, the X-Men, the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider and more. In the game’s single player story mode, players choose to play as hero or villain, then select a series of enemies to battle. In between each clash, detailed comic book scenes tell the game’s story as players choose to move on to the next enemy or explore a branch in the narrative for the chance to acquire additional cards.
Marvel Trading Card Game uses Upper Deck Entertainment’s “Vs. System,” a flexible game engine that represents massive super hero battles in trading card game format. Each player begins the game with their own team of Marvel characters, and tries to defeat the cards of their opponent. The Vs. System is specifically designed to be played at all levels of competition and can be played in a variety of formats.

Utilizing a sophisticated online network, Marvel Trading Card Game lets players interact with the game’s online community to compete across a variety of game modes and tournaments, trade cards with other players and even purchase new cards from the game’s online store. The game offers several different modes that use each player’s personal decks or randomly created decks for an authentic tournament experience for four or more players. Local multiplayer is supported in the Nintendo DS and PSP system versions of the game through each system’s wireless link capabilities.
Cross-platform online play allows the PSP system and PC players to play Marvel Trading Card Game together. Nintendo DS users can play online using Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection service. Players on all platforms will be able to participate in regular sanctioned tournaments for valuable prizes. By visiting the game’s online store, players can purchase packs of cards from the latest Marvel Trading Card Game series and even post cards that they would like to trade.
“Bringing the head-to-head trading card game experience to handheld gaming systems and to the PC, Marvel Trading Card Game lets players take part in strategic, fast-paced battles with their favorite Marvel characters,” said Dennis Lee, Group Manager at Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “Boasting breakthrough cross-platform online functionality, the game captures the social element of the trading card game and lets players stay connected to the game and its virtual community no matter where they may be.”
Marvel Trading Card Game will be launching this Fall and will be available to play at Konami’s booth (#800) at the Electronic Entertainment Expo May 10 - 12, 2006. For more information on the game, please visit www.konami.com/gs.
